In the Keys Day 5

August 31st, 2007

No too much has happened in the way of diving or art this week. I could write about all the Yellowtail Snapper, Mangrove Snapper, and Jack Crevalle we caught off the boat this week, but that would be another blog.

Today I sat in about 25 feet of water with the sole purpose of taking pictures. Being a shallow dive I had plenty of time to stop, wait and shoot. The natural light of the sun also lit up the coral very well even though the visibility wasn’t very good.

This small eel was hanging around between a seafan and gorgonian. He saw me coming and sunk back into the safety of his hole. He later recognized that I didn’t want to eat him and decided to come out to see exactly what I was doing.

Later I saw a filefish, then I didn’t. This little fella’ would turn a certain way and would seemingly disappear in the gorgonian.

There was also this Townsend Angel who acted more like a puppy dog than a fish. Usually angle fish of the Caribbean are pretty cordial and inquisitive. It is not uncommon for a mated pair of French Angels for Queen Angels to follow you for a good two or three minutes.

And then there were the wide angle shots from the shallows. Enjoy!
